Argyle Street is the namesake for the 19th-century Chicago suburb developed by Chicago Alderman James Campbell and named for his ancestors, the Dukes of Argyll. In the 1960s, Chicago restaurateur Jimmy Wong attempted to turn the area into New Chinatown, attracting numerous Asian entrepreneurs to the area. In the 1970s, Vietnamese flooded into the area.
